Does Success in Life Mean Money?

To discuss on this topic let’s look how these words are described in dictionaries.                              Success is described that:
1-the achieving of the results wanted or hoped for
2-something that achieves positive results
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/success?q=success
And also Money is:
1-coins or notes that are used to buy things,
2- The amount of these that one person has

When we look these definitions, they don’t arouse a feeling of being waited.  We all have some different definitions for them, of course. But in general terms some say “success is money; don’t think of it so much.” while some say “success is reaching dreams, money is not important.”
I think it is difficult to define the word of “success” because it has several meanings for each people. It depends on what people want to achieve in their life.

Considering these, we separate people four groups according to some critters for this topic. Let’s look at them and think of what success is for you.

1-People who are both rich and successful:

Success means innovations for them and they managed it. They brought new things to both people and their own lives. They earned the success with their own efforts and luck was with them.  Who doesn’t want to be in their shoes?
Here are some of them:

STEVE JOBS:
Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, the company he co-founded. During his time away from Apple, Jobs co-founded computer company NeXT, which was later acquired by Apple, and launched Pixar Animation Studios. When he returned to Apple nearly a decade later, he brought the innovation of the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. According to Forbes based on September 2011, his net worth was $ 9 billion.

WALT DISNEY:
In 1919, Disney was fired from Kansas City Star. According to his editor, he "lacked imagination and had no good ideas". Afterwards Disney acquired Laugh-O-Gram, an animation studio he later drove into bankruptcy. Finally he decided to set his sights on a more profitable area: Hollywood. He and his brother moved to California and stated to producing a successful cartoon series and he gain so much money.

2- People who are successful but not rich:

For them money is not everything. They tried to achieve something and reach their target without money. They loved their job and they devoted themselves to be successful in their penniless world. Sometimes, people do not care about people’s successes during their life period. In other words, while the successful people are living, the society does not wonder and talk about their success. When they die, the society starts to listen to their songs and read their books. Therefore, these authors, singers and actors/actresses cannot earn sizeable amount of money. In history, there is full of people who are not rich but successful. What is more, there are some talented people who cannot attract the society’s attention.

ADILE NAŞIT:
Adile Naşit was a Turkısh actress, who is best known for being the partner of Münir Özkul in movies like Neşeli Günler and in Hababam Sınıfı (Hababam Class). She also starred in many plays, movies and a children's programme called Uykudan Önce (Before Sleep) as a storyteller. Her films are so successful that Turkish people watch them effusively. She is remembered by almost all Turkısh people even now. Although she had a lot of fans and successful films, she could not earn so much money.

NEŞET ERTAŞ:
Neşet Ertaş was one of the most successful singer today’s world. His folk songs have been sung for ages. He was offered to be “performer of the government” but he refused. He did never measure his talent and success in this area with awards or money. He dedicated to public the awards he took. His song’s copyrights have never been given properly but the money he couldn’t take is not a hinder in front of his success. Without earning huge money, he made approximately 24 albums. Public haven’t treated him as his unsuccessful, contrast to he will always be a good, perfect bald in our minds and hearts. He proves that success is in a person’s inside not his pockets.

We are remembered with respect the big singer :                                          http://www.izlesene.com/video/neset-ertas-neredesin-sen/6895829#

3- People who are rich but regarded as not successful:

We usually realize the examples of this kind of people in our daily life. Both famous and rich people in society can go through this process. They are rich but either their Money can’t make them happy or they gain Money without trying thanks to luck.

SAKIP SABANCI :
He had a lot of wealth such as houses, yachts and corporations. In addition, a Toyota factory in which hundreds of cars were produced belongs to him. However, he said that
"I HAVE A HUGE TOYOTA FACTORY, BUT I DON’T HAVE A SON WHO CAN DRAW A CAR!" Furthermore, in some interviews  , he mentioned about faith. Regardless of how much money you have , he referred to the importance of faith much more than money. Later, he said that he had a disabled son.

‘’FIRSTLY HE DIVORCED FROM HIS WIFE AND LATER HE COMMITTED SUICED.’’
Ahmet Bayram with nine children won a prize in 2005.He obtained 1 million and 250 thousands in one night. Immediately, he divorced from his wife and he gambled money away. Later he was found as dead because of committing suicide in bath.

4-Success in perspective of simple views, daily life:

In ordinary life, except gorgeous success, people meets two different percepts to this topic.
-One of this is to regard little happiness or events which is full of proud as success.
For example when a mother looks her child who is happy because s/he picks some flowers or on a special day remembers her/his family, she feels success with proud for her.
When a friend who you care, says you that s/he is glad to be friend with you, Don't you feel succeeded beside happiness?
Or being loved by your teacher you loved so much feels like you achieved very important thing. Those moments are a kind of success because we all link success with happiness or different emotion anyway.
-Another is to ignore real success because of not earning money or valuable things.

For example, when a person gets a degree in a contest, award is the first thing to bring the mind. Think of it, when you see a poster about a discipline you good at, you probably look how value reward is and according to its value you decide whether you join or not. In this part, it is thought that success is nothing without money. This type of people think money is power and everything.
Consequently, we have given our researches about this topic as possible as unbiased and we try to show different perspective about being successful and wealth. What kind of your thought is? Does success really mean money in life?

Now, we ask for some extras. In your comments, please
-describe your own ‘success’ with only one phrase.
-write one each OBJECTS which calls to your mind when I say “SUCCESS” and when I say “MONEY. (such as a cup, my mom, smiley face, car, home...)
And, also here are a few quizzes about “will you be successful?” etc. By looking those you can notice how success is evaluated by people. It’s up to you.

                                                                                                                            Çağla Akın
                                                                                                                           Elif Armağan
                                                                                                                           Tuğçe Avşar
                                                                                                                           Merve Çağlar

**Sherlock** (Task 3b)

(part-1)
I will mention about “sentence types are according to function”. There are four kinds of sentence. These are:
1-İnterrogative sentences ask a question. As you would expect, they end with a question mark. For instance from the video:
Are you sure?
Did you figure it out?
Which one's the good bottle?
Which one would you have picked?
So what do you think?
2-imperative sentences give orders or directions, and so end with a period or an exclamation mark. For instance from the video:
Tell me this.
Give me...a name.
Play the game.
Ignore me.
Stop it!
Stop it.
                                                    (part-2)
3-Exclamatory sentences show strong emotions. They end with an exclamation mark. For example from the video:
Come on!
Oh!
SHERLOCK!
The name!
MORIARTY!
Shoulder!
How very public-spirited!
4-Declarative sentences state an idea. They end with a period. For example from the video:
I'm concerned about you.
He's always been so resentful.
We met earlier on this evening.
I can always predict the fortune cookies.
There was an actual wound.
I've absolutely no idea.

Here are questions about my video:
1-Do you think that killing a bad man, a serial murderer, is a true behavior?

1-Who is the man that shot the killer?
2-How can Sherlock understand who the man that shot the killer and save him is?

I chose this video because I love this series and I enjoy this scene when I watch. While I am doing this task, I am grateful that I have a chance to share this interesting and funny scene with my friends. It doesn’t make me bored how much I watch so I have fun as I am doing. Despite of these I have hardships about what subject that I will choose should be, how I explain the topic and etc. Preparing this entry feels me exiting because it reflects my thoughts.

Self-evaluation:  I believe that my task is interesting because Sherlock Holmes is a man everybody knows. In this task, I reflect his almost every side. He is in danger, he is anxious, an expert of in his area, a funny friend, a weird brother and Sherlock Holmes. I try to make a good work. I hesitated about whether it should be this video or not. I try to make my best but I don’t know that I succeed or not.  So I am waiting for your constructive comments for my entry. Thank you in advance.

The Rewrite of the Task 2a

I am interested in Greek Mythology and the more I search about it, the better I like it. Greek Mythology has infinite amazing cases and ideas. I am fan of the mentality that occurs the legends and the religion with no lack. For Islam and other religions these mythological gods are nonsense. For this reason, many people know nothing about Greek Myth. In my opinion, however, Greek Myth shows me perspectives of those who lived thousand years ago and thus the differences between Hellenistic Age and today. Ancient Greek gods actually are popular among some people; though, I want them to be more popular all over the world and interesting for everyone. The idea that you believe in mythological gods if you are interested in them is fully wrong in my opinion, so in my judgement it is not true that reading these myths damages our belief. Perhaps, on the contrary, it forces our faith.

Rewrite of the Task 3a

Robert John Downey, Jr., born in April 4, 1965, is an American actor who made his screen debut at the age of five and appeared in his father Robert Downey, Sr.'s film Pound. He starred as Charlie Chaplin, the title character in the 1992 film Chaplin, bringing him in a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. His performances were praised and he received a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film. His more recent films are The Singing Detective, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Zodiac etc. In 2008, Downey played the role of Marvel superhero Tony Stark / Iron Man in the live action film Iron Man, a role he reprised in Iron Man 2, Marvel's The Avengers, and Iron Man 3. He reprised his role in a cameo appearance in The Incredible Hulk. He will reprise his role again in the upcoming films, Avengers: Age of Ultron and another Avengers sequel. In 2009, he played the leading role in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and again in 2011 in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Robert Downey Jr. has also sung on several soundtracks of films such as Chaplin, Too Much Sun, Two Girls and a Guy, etc. He released a CD in 2004 called The Futurist.

Robert is a scenarist, director, actor and musician. In this year, I vote for Robert Downey thanks to his very different performance. In simple terms, when I watched Sherlock Holmes, I was impressed so much because of his temperament. I have searched him and when I encounter his name, sometimes I am shocked because he is always in good projects. 2013-2014 is the season when Robert works hard for his films which are very popular among the people. I love his roles in his films and series; he performs his roles in a catchy way. His talents also make me impressed when I watch his performance. In addition to his abilities, I enjoy listening to his music. In this intensive season, I think he should be the man of the year. I absolutely vote for him , he is one of the best men ever.

Just For Fun :D

 The cold never bothered anyway...
Perfect lyric + perfect music = Let it go
I love so much this song and for once 'Let it go and LISTEN ' :D

"I Sound My Barbaric Yawp over the Rooftops of the World" w.w (Task 2b)

This video is from "Dead Poets Society" movie. This movie is about teaching and education. In the movie, a literature teacher who is called by his students 'Captain' is a exraordinary man and he has very different methods of insruction. His students find these methods weird initially but in time they love Captain and his lesson. The literature become a lesson students are looking forward to coming. Despite of these the teacher is looked down by the director of the school. In addition to these views, he is convicted by other people of suicide of his one student. They claim that his creed 'Carpe Diem' cause the death.
In this scene, Captain controls students homework. He wanted his students to write an original poem for the following lesson and to read loud in front of the class.Todd, a student of Captain, is unsuccessful in speaking in front of other people. The scene progress in this way and Captain tries to make Todd tell an original poem and his feelings inside of him. I can say the best part of movie and it makes me tell 'waow!'. As an applicant of teacher, I am impressed so much. This scene shows me what can do with a little technic and a little effort.I love so much educational movies like this. I am glad to watch this movie because this kind of movies make me willing about teaching. I wanna be an unusual teacher and learn not just the lesson but also learn about life.I wanna give them some hints about how they can deal with a problem. For my dreams, this film is a source of inpiration. I love so much perspective of the video. I agree with Captain's ideas and style. 'Students are important and there is always beauty in the difference' I think. I sometimes disagree with the conventional techniques because the world is changing and people don't remain the same. New perspectives are necessary for us,educator. This quotation is a perfect instance for my thoughts.

"You push it, stretch it,
It'll never be enough.
You kick at it, beat it,
It'll never cover any of us.
From the moment we enter crying,
to the moment we leave dying...
It will cover your face
as you wail and cry and scream."

Mythology (Task 2a)

"In Greek mythology the Primordial deities are the first entities or beings that come into existence. They form the very fabric of the universe and as such are immortal. These deities are a group of gods from which all the other gods descend. They preceded the Titans, the descendants of Gaia and Uranus.Without male assistance, Gaia gave birth to Uranus (the Sky) who then fertilized her. From that union were born first the Titans—six males: CoeusCriusCronusHyperionIapetus, and Oceanus; and six females: MnemosynePhoebeRhea,TheiaThemis, and Tethys. After Cronus was born, Gaia and Uranus decreed no more Titans were to be born. They were followed by the one-eyed Cyclopes and the Hecatonchires or Hundred-Handed Ones, who were both thrown into Tartarus by Uranus. This made Gaia furious. Cronus ("the wily, youngest and most terrible of Gaia's children"), was convinced by Gaia to castrate his father. He did this, and became the ruler of the Titans with his sister-wife Rhea as his consort, and the other Titans became his court. Then Zeus stands up to his father Cronus with his siblings Hades and Poseidon. Three siblings share the ruling of Olympus. Zeus becomes the God of sky, lightning, thunder, law, order, justice; Poseidon is the God of  sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses; Hades is  Dead and Riches. Also their other siblings Demeter is the goddess of the harvest;Hestia is a virgin goddessof the heartharchitecture, and the right ordering of domesticity, the family and the state;Hera is the Goddess of birth, women and marriage.Olympus always has 12 gods and this number never change."                                                               Quatition from Wikipedia as information.

I am interested in Greek Mythology and as long as I search, I like it. Greek Myth has infinite amazing cases and ideas. I am fan of the notion that occurs these legends and religion without any lack or incompability. For our religion and for other religion these mythological Gods may be nonsense also many people thinks nothing about Greek Myth. ın my opinion, however,Greek Myth shows me ideas and way of thinking of people who lived thousand years ago and live now so a person see the different between Hellenistic Age and today. Gods of Greek actually are popular among some people but despite this I want them to be more popular or intresting for everyone. The idea that if you are intrested in Myth then you believe them is fully wrong in my opinion. So in my judgement there is nothing that reading these Myth damages our belief. Maybe on the contrary it force our faith.
